Dr. Ebelia Manda

Dr. Ebelia Manda stands as a beacon of excellence and innovation in the realm of mining engineering and environmental sustainability. She currently serves as a Mining Engineering Lecturer at the Copperbelt University in Zambia. Dr. Manda pursued her academic career at the University of Zambia, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering with distinction, becoming one of the first two female Mining Engineering graduates in Zambia. Her exceptional research on slope stability at Konkola Copper Mines earned her the "Best Final Year Project" award, further highlighting her academic brilliance.

Dr. Manda continued her academic journey at the University of Exeter in the UK's Camborne School of Mines, where she completed her master's degree, acquiring her skills in areas such as slope stability analysis and resource estimation. Her groundbreaking work on the use of cutting-edge digital technologies in open-pit mining was well received, indicating that her research will make further contributions to the subject in the future.
Dr. Manda obtained her Ph.D. from the China University of Mining and Technology, focusing on mine environmental monitoring and sustainable practices. Her extensive research in diverse areas such as mine technology, UAV applications, and dust monitoring positioned her as a leading authority in the quest for sustainable mining solutions.
Dr. Manda's professional experience includes both underground and open-pit work at Lumwana Copper Mine and Konkola Copper Mine. Driven by a deep-seated commitment to environmental stewardship, she has tirelessly pursued innovative solutions to mitigate the adverse impacts of mining activities. She was awarded the prestigious Schlumberger foundation for the future scholarship to pursue a Postdoc fellowship. Her focus on developing novel mineral processing technologies to address the critical issue of Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) underscores her dedication to promoting sustainable mining practices.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Dr. Manda is actively involved in mentorship and advocacy, particularly in promoting gender equity and empowering the next generation of mining engineers. Her efforts in conducting career talks in secondary schools and her membership in international women in mining organizations demonstrate her commitment to nurturing talent and fostering diversity within the industry.
