Dr. Eng. Kabwe Mulenga

Dr. Eng. Kabwe Mulenga is a woman of great discipline, resilience and hard work, who exemplifies excellence. She currently serves as the Chief Engineer (Research) of the Renewable Energy Department at ZESCO Limited. As ZESCO works towards harnessing more Solar and Wind Energy, Dr. Mulenga leads the research team on Renewable Energy. She is also the Vice Chairperson of the Western Water Supply and Sanitation Company Board.

Dr. Eng. Kabwe Mulenga graduated from the University of Zambia in 2012, becoming the Zambia's first female Mechanical Engineer. She started her career in the same year as an Administrative Supervisor at Puma Energy Zambia PLC in Ndola. She also interned for the Water and Sanitation Association of Zambia (WASAZA) in Lusaka, SKF Zambia Limited in Kitwe and AFREPREN/FWD in Nairobi, Kenya during her academic journey at the University of Zambia. In 2013, she interned for the Daimler AG- Mercedes Benz Cars/ Students Experience Programme (STEP) in Germany. In 2014, she joined the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) Lusaka as an Assistant Standards Officer- Engineering.

In 2014, Dr. Mulenga went to China for further studies and pursued a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the Harbin Institute of Technology, which she obtained in 2016. She continued her academic journey at City University of Hong Kong in 2016, pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, where she also served as a Teaching Assistant during her studentship. Upon receiving her PhD in 2019, she worked as the engineering manager at Redspot Limited in Kitwe in 2020, then in 2021, she was employed as a researcher and lecturer at Copperbelt University.

Dr. Mulenga encourages upcoming female engineers to support other women by being good examples in maintaining good work ethics and standards. This builds confidence for the employer in many organizations, thereby opening doors for other women.
