Eng. Maambo Malambo

Eng. Maambo's career commenced as a Civil Engineer, overseeing civil construction projects in and around Kansanshi's processing plant. Demonstrating her adaptability, she transitioned to the mining side of the business, honing her expertise in short-term mine planning, drill and blast design based at Mauritania Copper Mines which is also FQM owned while simultaneously acquiring an MSc in Mining Engineering. In 2014 she joined FQM’s Mining Operations Division under the Optimisation Department as an Optimisation Engineer working with Mining Operations, Training, Safety and Mobile Maintenance on various projects. She was appointed as the Optimisation Superintendent in July 2022 and Assistant Chief Mining Engineer for Mine Planning in September 2023.

Over the years, Eng. Maambo has learned a wide range of skills which include Data Analytics, Business Improvement, Project Management, Safety Incident Investigation and mentoring which complemented her technical skills. Her day-to-day activities encompassed project scoping and tracking, performance evaluations, cost estimations, tender evaluation, contract management, and spearheading continuous improvement initiatives. Alongside her team, she provided crucial technical support to the Production Department, leveraging data analysis to optimize drilling, blasting, and high-precision mining operations. They actively explore and implement new methods and technologies, constantly seeking to elevate efficiency and business performance.

In recognition of her potential, Eng. Maambo participated in the General Manager's Leadership Development Programme under the mentorship of Anthony Mukutuma in 2022. This experience further refined her leadership skills and strategic vision, preparing her for the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead.

In September of 2023, Eng. Maambo embraced a new challenge, returning to Kansanshi Mine as Assistant Chief Engineer for Mine Planning. Here, she leads a team tasked with translating the mine's long-term and medium-term goals into actionable short-term plans, ensuring operational excellence and alignment with strategic objectives.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Eng. Maambo finds joy in nature, travel, food, fitness, and personal growth activities. She also recently became involved in the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ), through their Solwezi branch where she hopes to impact and inspire younger engineers through outreach programmes and mentorship.
